Peabody's bar and restaurant came into being during June, 1975 with owners Bob Wallett and Bob Crossett making the move from Filion's on Bridge St. to 7 Clinton Street. Formerly known as Jerry Donnelly's Clothing Store, the structure was actually two buildings. The lower half, at one time, was one of the oldest streets in the City of Plattsburgh known as Gold Street.

Peabody's quickly became the "in" place to be in downtown Plattsburgh. Coat and tie were required initially, but that quickly gave way to the realities of the marketplace in Plattsburgh and more casual attire became the norm. Nearby government and downtown office workers have been the mainstay of the luncheon crowd. Serving lunches daily except Sundays and featuring fresh-cut deli meats, Peabody's quickly became locally famous for it's 1/2lb. hamburgers.

Wallett bought out partner Crossett in 1986 and renovated the second floor in 1990. The upstairs was called "Gold Street" and served lunches for two years. In 1993 the upstairs was converted to a dance club and remains so today.

Several notable sports luminaires have been seen at Peabody's including: NBA player Dan Schayes, Canadian wrestler Mad Dog Vachon, Canadian NHL players Mario Trombley and Yvon Lambert, and Olympic high jump medalist Dwight Stones.

A 4:30 - 7:00 Happy Hour has always been a popular institution at Peabody's where many of the local business community relax after work.
