Branham clinches first career title PDF Print E-mail

Plattsburgh's Bucko Branham is currently in his 25th season of racing at Airborne Speedway. He has competed on the dirt and now the asphalt. Over those 25 seasons Branham has captured more wins than anyone else in that time span. The one thing that has eluded Branham is a track championship.

When the final checkered flags falls on September 21st Branham will officially be crowned the 2008 Airborne Speedway Sportsman Track Champion. Last Saturday night Branham extended his points lead over Shawn Duquette to 63 points. The most points that can be gained in any one event is 50. And with just one points race remaining even those not smarter than a fifth grader know Bucko cannot be denied his crown.

In addition to the track championship, Branham leads the way with 3 victories in the divsion. That is a quite an accomplishment in its own as the competition in the Sportsman division has been fierce all season long.  Each week any one of a dozen or so cars is more than capable of picking up a checkerd flag.

Branham is known online as "oldtimer" it wouldnt surprise anyone if this "oldtimer" has many more wins and championship trophies to collect before he finally calls it quits.

Patrick Dupree, from Saranac Lake, not only clinched the Modified championship, he won the 100 lap Labor Day Classic in convincing manner. Runner-up Mike Bruno had a tough night having to deal with a flat tire at the midway point of the race before falling out in the latter stages with a broken axle.

Airborne's other 3 divisions each have 2 points races remaining. 50 lap events on September 13 and the closing event on September 21. Renegade driver Lonnie Rivers extended his lead as Lance Rabtoy's night ended on the wrecker. In the Warrior division Butch LaMere won his 6th event of the season and opened ground on defending champ Rick Doner.  8th grader Josh Terry picked up the win and Randy Martin maintained his points lead in the bomber division.

Airborne is back in action Saturday September 13 with a special 5pm post time.

Modified Track Title Decided Saturday PDF Print E-mail

The Airborne Speedway modified track champion will be crowned Saturday night. Heading into the final points race of the season for the mighty modifieds Saranac Lake's Patrick Dupree leads former track champion Mike Bruno from Rutland VT by just one point. As a result whomever finishes higher in the 100 lap main event will be crowned the 2008 champion.

Dupree picked up the victory on opening week at the Plattsburgh speedplant but has not carried the checkers since. Bruno leads the way in the win category in the modified division. Mike has been driving a backup car since a turn 4 mishap destroyed the teams primary car a few weeks ago.

The sportsman division still has 2 point races remaining. Plattsburgh's 25 year racing veteran Bucko Branham has a large lead over Shawn Duquette. Branham has 3 wins on the season and numerous top five finishes. It would be the first track championship for Branham in his stellar career at Airborne.

The Renegades, Warriors and Bombers each have 3 point races remaining. There is a great battle in the renegades going on between Lonnie Rivers, "Little Joe" Daniels, Lance Rabtoy and Dave Rabtoy. Rivers currently leads the way but with 3 events to go anything can happen.  Another fantastic finish is expected in the warrior division. Butch Lamere and defending track champ Rick Doner have switch leads over the past couple weeks. In the bomber division 6 time winner Randy "Gilligan" Martin has the lead and will be very tough to catch.
